INTERFACING A LOAD-CELL AND HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE USING A DSPIC MICRO-CONTROLLER
ABSTRACT
The main product of the Nuclear Fuel Complex is the Nuclear Fuel Bundle which is the
fuel of a nuclear reactor. This bundle goes through various testing processes
in its making and also after it is put together. A load cell is used to weigh
the bundle while it is going through the testing process in the end. The
information that is given by the loadcell should be communicated into a Human
Machine Interface.
The
communication that is used for this process is asynchronous serial
communication by using RS232 and RS485 communication protocols. This kind of
communication is possible only with a microcontroller is in play. The usage of the DSPIC30F4013 microcontroller enables the usage of serial communication as it
converts the received ASCII data from the loadcell indicator and will convert
the data in the format that is accepted by the HMI. Modbus RTU protocol is used
by the HMI in order to receive information. The microcontroller converts the
data and transmits it to the HMI. The weight information is observed in the
display of the HMI.
